G. K. Chesterton wrote a book called Orthodoxy. He published it in 1908. He called it a "spiritual autobiography." This means it is a story about his own faith. The book is a classic of Christian apologetics. Apologetics is a way to explain or defend a belief.

Chesterton wrote this book to answer a man named G. S. Street. Street had criticized Chesterton's other work. In this book, Chesterton shares his own views. He does not try to prove if faith is true. Instead, he explains how he came to believe it. He says faith is like an answer to a riddle. He thinks it meets what humans need.

Chesterton used the Apostles' Creed to guide his ideas. This is a simple statement of belief. Because of this, many different kinds of Christians like the book. At the time, Chesterton was an Anglican. He became a Catholic fourteen years later. The book has helped many people find their own faith. One critic called it a masterpiece. He said it is fun and very deep.
