Some people use words to explain their faith. They use logic and reasons to defend what they believe. This is called apologetics. The word comes from an old Greek term. In Greek courts, a person would give a formal speech to defend themselves.

Many different religions use this method. Early Christians used it to answer critics in the Roman Empire. Some people even made false claims about them. Christians used apologetics to show their beliefs made sense.

Other faiths do this too. In the Baháʼí Faith, leaders wrote books to prove their teachings. Buddhists have written texts to explain deep ideas about the soul. In Islam, scholars use a science called kalam to defend their faith. Hindu thinkers have also used it to explain their traditions. Jewish writers like Josephus wrote long defenses of their religion a long time ago. Even Deists use reason to show they believe in a creator. Apologetics is a way for people to share their views and answer hard questions.
