philosophy religion Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Doctrine is a set of teachings. It is a group of ideas or rules. People use this word in many ways.

Many people use it for religion. It describes the core beliefs of a faith. For example, some Christians believe in the Trinity. In Buddhism, people follow the Four Noble Truths. Some groups find these ideas in holy books. Others learn them from leaders. Some people write these ideas in a book called a catechism.

Doctrine is also used in law. Legal doctrine is a group of rules. These rules help judges make decisions.

In the military, doctrine is a plan. It tells soldiers how to act in war. It can be a way to plan an attack. Some plans use hit-and-run tactics.

Politicians also use doctrine. It is a set of ideas about how to lead. It is a way to talk about what should happen in a country.

Even the title "Doctor" comes from this word. It means a person has the power to teach new ideas in their field. They have studied a subject for a long time.
