He studied physics and how electricity works. He was a teacher at many schools. He even led the University of Birmingham for many years.

Lodge helped create the radio. He studied electromagnetic waves. These are waves of power that move through space. He found a way to send and catch these waves.

He used a tool called a coherer to catch signals. A coherer is a glass tube with tiny metal bits inside. When waves hit the tube, the metal bits stick together. This lets electricity flow through them. This helped him see the signals.

Lodge also worked on tuning. He made a way to pick specific frequencies. A frequency is the speed of a wave. This is called syntonic tuning. This work helped people use radio better.

He also helped make car engines work. He made a part called an igniter. This part uses a spark to help engines run. His sons even started a business using his ideas.
