Nintendo began making it in 1993. They worked with a company called Silicon Graphics. The name comes from its 64-bit CPU. A CPU is the main brain of the machine.

It has a special part called a coprocessor. This part handles graphics and sound in separate ways. This helped the machine show 3D graphics.

Nintendo chose to use ROM cartridges for games. These are plastic blocks. They help games start fast and stop people from copying them. But they cost more than the discs used by other machines. This meant fewer games were made for it. Many games came from Nintendo itself. These included Mario and The Legend of Zelda.

It also has four ports. This lets four people play together at once. You can even add an Expansion Pak. This part adds more memory to the system. This helps the machine work even better.
