Sony made this device to play games and watch movies on the go. It was the first handheld in the PlayStation family. It first came out in Japan in 2004.

The PSP was very powerful for its time. It could connect to the Internet and other computers. It also used a special disc called a Universal Media Disc, or UMD.

These small discs held both games and movies.

Sony made different versions of the PSP over the years. The PSP-2000 was a slimmer and lighter model. The PSP-3000 had an even better screen.

This screen was easier to see outside because it had anti-reflective technology. This helps stop glare from the sun.

Keeping the device running was a big task. The UMD drive used a lot of power. This could make the battery die quickly. To help, Sony used special ways to manage power. They also made a larger battery kit for people who wanted more play time.
