It was their last home game machine. It came out in Japan in 1998. It came out everywhere else in 1999.

Sega wanted to make the machine less costly. They used parts that were easy to find. This helped keep the price low for families. The machine used special discs called GD-ROMs. These were cheaper to make than DVD discs.

One big change was the internet. The Dreamcast was the first machine with a built-in modem. A modem is a part that lets a machine connect to the web. This let people play games with others online.

Many people loved the games. One famous game was Sonic Adventure.

Other fun games included Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. Even though it was not a huge success, many people think it was ahead of its time. It helped start new ideas like playing games online. Today, fans still use the machine to play special games.
