Nintendo made this machine. It came out in late 2006.

Nintendo wanted to reach many people. They did not try to make the most powerful machine. Instead, they wanted new ways to play.

The Wii used a wireless controller called the Wii Remote. This controller could track motion. It could also act as a pointing device. This made games feel very different.

People loved the new way to play. The Wii became a big social success. It sold over 101 million units.

This made it Nintendo's best-selling console for a long time. It was even the seventh-best-selling console of all time.

Some people thought the games were too simple. This group of players is often called core gamers. To win them back, Nintendo made the Wii U in 2012. The Wii was stopped in 2013. Later, Nintendo made a smaller version called the Wii Mini. This version did not have online features.
