He was a composer, a piano player, and a teacher. He also made pianos and published music for others to play. Many people call him the "Father of the Piano" because of his work. He helped create music that was made just for the piano. This helped the instrument grow and change during his life. His work helped keep many songs alive for many years.

Clementi learned music through many different steps. He started with lessons in figured bass and voice when he was young. At age 13, he had already written a mass and an oratorio. When he was 14, he became an organist for a church. Later, he moved to a large estate in Dorset, England. There, he practiced the harpsichord for eight hours every single day. He studied many famous composers like Bach and Handel to improve. This hard work helped him start a very successful career.

His life took him from Italy to England and across Europe. He was born in Rome in 1752 to a silversmith. A wealthy man named Sir Peter Beckford sponsored his musical studies. Beckford took him to England to help him learn more. In 1781, Clementi traveled to Vienna for a big event. He entered a musical contest against the famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Emperor of Austria declared the contest a tie between them.

Clementi did many important things in the music world. He helped found the Philharmonic Society of London in 1813. He also became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. In 1807, he started making his own brand of pianos. He was a skilled mechanic who made important new improvements. He even held the rights to publish all of Beethoven's music. These many roles helped him become a leader in music.

His influence can still be heard in music today. He taught many students who became very famous themselves. Some of these students were John Field and Ignaz Moscheles. His playing style even helped shape the work of Beethoven. Mozart even used a melody from one of Clementi's songs. Clementi died in 1832 at the age of eighty. He was buried in the famous Westminster Abbey in London.
