Motorcycle club

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A motorcycle club is a group of people who love riding bikes. These groups can be very different from one another. Some clubs only allow people who own one specific brand of bike. For example, the Harley Owners Group is a famous brand club. There are also clubs for people who like vintage machines. Other groups focus on specific places or meeting spots.

Many clubs work together to help their communities. Some groups act as charities to support people in need. The Patriot Guard Riders provide escorts for funerals of military veterans. Another group called Rolling Thunder helps people looking for missing troops. Some clubs even help in medical emergencies. The Freewheelers EVS use motorcycles as medical couriers. In the UK, volunteers teach people how to ride safely.

Motorcycle clubs have a long history in the United States. One of the very first groups was the New York Motorcycle Club. In 1903, this group joined with the Alpha Motorcycle Club of Brooklyn. This merger created the Federation of American Motorcyclists. Later, a group called the M&ATA formed a special division. This division eventually became the American Motorcyclist Association. This is now the largest group for riders in America.

Numbers show how large these groups can become. As of 2015, the American Motorcyclist Association had over 200,000 members. This large organization also supports over 1,200 different chartered clubs. Some clubs are very small and local. Others are large national groups like the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. There is even a group called the Dominar Owners Club for Bajaj Dominar bikes. These groups often make their own magazines and hold events.

Some riders use special symbols to show their club. They might wear a three-piece patch on their riding vest. These are often called "colors" by the riders. Some groups are known as "outlaw" or "one percenter" clubs. These groups may reject certain authorities or follow a specific biker lifestyle. However, many other clubs use the initials MC for something much simpler. For most people, it just means they belong to a motorcycle club.
