The group consisted of Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders. Bohlen was the songwriter, producer, and guitar player. Anders was the singer who also played piano and keyboards. They became one of the most successful pop duos in German history. Their catchy music reached people in many different parts of the world. Many people still enjoy their songs today on the internet.

Their music had a very specific sound that fans loved. Bohlen used high, thin singing voices called falsetto in the choruses. He was inspired by a song called "Precious Little Diamond" by Fox the Fox. Other influences included disco-pop and romantic songs from Italy and France. To make these high sounds, a group of studio singers helped. These singers included Rolf Köhler, Michael Scholz, and Detlef Wiedeke. They helped create the characteristic sound of the group's biggest hits.

The duo first formed in West Berlin in early 1983. They became unexpected stars at the start of 1985. Their first big hit was "You're My Heart, You're My Soul." This single reached the top ten in 35 different countries. It even stayed at the top of the charts in Germany for six weeks. This one song sold eight million copies around the world. They released many more hits like "Cheri, Cheri Lady" and "Brother Louie."

Modern Talking had a very busy and sometimes difficult history. They worked together from 1983 to 1987 before they disbanded. During this time, they released two albums every single year. They sold 65 million records in just those three years. They were even one of the first Western bands allowed in the Soviet Union. This happened because of new reforms in 1986. This allowed them to build a huge fanbase in Eastern Europe.

The two men eventually reunited to make music again. They worked together from 1998 to 2003. Their comeback album, "Back for Good," hit number one in 15 countries. This album sold three million copies in Europe alone. They even won the award for Best Selling German Band in 1999. By their final break-up in 2003, they had sold 120 million records. This total made them the biggest-selling German music act in history.
