Much of the land is kept safe in natural parks. About 12% of the area is part of these parks. These include the Kirishima-Kinkōwan National Park. There are also several quasi-national parks like Nichinan Kaigan. Other areas are called prefectural natural parks. These parks help protect the green hills and coasts. They make the region a wonderful place to explore.

Miyazaki has a long and interesting history. It was once known as Hyūga Province. The prefecture was first created in 1873. This happened when Mimitsu Prefecture merged with part of Miyakonojō Prefecture. For a short time, it was merged into Kagoshima Prefecture. This lasted until 1876. Later, people asked for Miyazaki to be independent again. It finally became its own prefecture in 1883.

Many people live and work in Miyazaki. As of January 2025, the population was 1,028,215. Miyazaki City is the capital and the largest city. Other major cities include Miyakonojō, Nobeoka, and Hyūga. People in the area enjoy many different sports. There are teams for soccer and basketball.

Many people also play golf here. The Dunlop Phoenix Tournament brings famous players to the area. You can travel around using trains or the airport.
