This was the last imperial dynasty ruled by the Han people. The empire was known for its massive size and strong leadership. It started with a man named Zhu Yuanzhang. He was once a poor peasant and a Buddhist monk. He joined a group called the Red Turbans to fight for change. After many battles, he became the Hongwu Emperor. He established Nanjing as his first capital city.

The Hongwu Emperor worked hard to rebuild the country. He wanted to create stable rural communities. He also built a huge standing army of over one million troops.

During this time, the Ming empire explored the wide world. A leader named Zheng He led seven huge voyages.

His ships sailed across the Indian Ocean. They traveled as far as Arabia and the coasts of Africa. These trips showed how much the Ming could reach. Back at home, the empire grew even larger. They expanded their rule into parts of Inner Asia. They also moved many people into new lands to help govern them. This changed the way different groups lived together.

Life in the Ming dynasty changed with new goods and food. Traders from Europe brought new plants to China.

Silver from other lands also became very important for money. This was different from the paper money used before. However, things became difficult when the weather changed. A period called the Little Ice Age brought cold weather and crop failures.

In the end, the dynasty faced many hard problems at once. There were floods, bad weather, and sickness.

It also became very hard for farmers to pay their taxes. In 1644, a rebel leader named Li Zicheng entered Beijing. This event marked the end of the Ming rule in the capital. Small groups of the imperial family tried to keep ruling for a while. They were called the Southern Ming. Eventually, the Qing dynasty took control of the land. This brought a new era to China.
