Military intelligence is a way to gather and study facts.

Leaders use these facts to make good plans. They need to know about the land and the people nearby. They also study friendly forces and enemy forces.

There are three main levels of intelligence. Strategic intelligence looks at big ideas. It studies things like a nation's money or politics. Operational intelligence helps plan large campaigns. Tactical intelligence helps small groups during a battle.

Workers collect facts in many ways. Some facts come from public news or books. This is called open-source intelligence. Other facts come from high photos taken from the sky. Some groups even use satellites to listen to signals.

After gathering facts, experts perform analysis. They study the data to find gaps in knowledge. They look for weak spots in an enemy's plan. For example, they might look at how a group gets fuel. This helps leaders predict what might happen next. This work happens during peace and during war.
