This group includes officers, enlisted members, and civilians. They work for a commander of a large unit. The staff helps the leader by making plans. They also gather information and study facts. This helps the leader make good choices for the unit.

Staff members work in different groups. Some handle training. Others manage supplies, which is called logistics. Some focus on intelligence, or finding out news. This work helps news move in many directions. The staff tells the leader about big issues. They also handle small tasks so the leader can focus.
