This includes many different types of aircraft.

Long ago, people used large balloons. These balloons helped them watch enemy troops. Later, real planes were made. The U.S. Army bought a Wright Model A in 1909. This was the first military plane in history.

As time passed, planes gained new roles. In World War I, planes were used for reconnaissance. This means they gather information. They also helped spot for big guns. By World War II, many new tools were used. These included radar, which helps see objects. New engines also made planes much faster.

Today, we see many specialized aircraft. Fighters move fast to win control of the air. Bombers carry large loads to hit targets. Transports carry food and tools to soldiers.
