He founded a style called Kyokushin, which means "the ultimate truth." This style is known as full contact karate. This means students use their full power when they practice. It is a very intense and practical way to train. People all over the world value this style for its strength. Many people still follow his teachings today.

To build his strength, Oyama practiced in many different ways. He studied at several karate schools, known as dojos, in Japan. He even spent long periods training all alone in the mountains. He lived in a small shack on Mt. Minobu for fourteen months. Later, he spent another 18 months training on Mt. Kiyosumi. This lonely training helped him grow much stronger and fiercer. He used these hard times to focus his mind and body.

Oyama's journey began when he was a young boy in Korea.

At age nine, he learned martial arts from a Chinese farmer. This teacher gave him a seed to plant and care for. As the plant grew, Oyama practiced jumping over it every day. In 1938, he moved to Japan to follow his brother. While living in Japan, he chose the name Masutatsu Oyama. This name was a way to honor his Korean roots.

His life was full of amazing and famous moments. He was known for breaking objects like boards, tiles, and bricks. These tests showed how much power a person could use. Some stories say he even fought bulls with his bare hands. These stories earned him the nickname "Godhand." In 1957, he officially named his style Kyokushinkai. He also started the International Karate Organization, or IKO. This group grew to have millions of members in many countries.

Today, we can see Oyama's impact in many places. He wrote more than 80 books about his life and karate. Some of his books were translated into English, French, and Hungarian. His life was so interesting that people made movies and comics about him. Large tournaments are still held every year in Japan. There are also world championships held every four years. These events allow people from all over the world to compete. His legacy lives on through the many students he trained.
