He started a style called Kyokushin. This means "the ultimate truth." It is a very strong way to train. It uses full contact fighting. This means students use their full power.

Oyama began learning martial arts when he was nine. He studied with a farmer in Korea. Later, he moved to Japan. He wanted to be the best. He even lived alone on a mountain for many months. He stayed in a small shack. This hard training made him much stronger.

Oyama loved to show his skill. He would break boards, tiles, and bricks. He also did shows with bulls. Some stories say he was very strong. People even called him "Godhand."

He wrote over 80 books about karate. He also started a large group called the IKO. This group has branches in over 100 countries. Many people around the world practice his style today. He died in Tokyo in 1994 at age 70.
