He realized he made more money selling shirts than working in insurance. This spirit of finding opportunities helped him succeed later.

His big break came from an adventure race. In 1991, he joined a French competition called the Raid Gauloises. He saw a way to bring this to America. He bought the rights to a similar race called Eco-Challenge. This show launched his career in 1995. It led to the massive success of Survivor in the year 2000. Survivor became one of the most watched summer series ever. It was even called the number one reality series of all time.

Burnett has also worked on many different types of shows. He and his wife, Roma Downey, make shows about faith. They produced a drama called The Bible on the History Channel. It was a huge success in 2013. More than 100 million people watched it around the world. He also helped lead large companies like MGM Worldwide Television Group. In 2024, he was named the United States Special Envoy to the United Kingdom. He has won 10 Primetime Emmy Awards for his talent.

His life shows how much one person can do. He grew up in London and served in the British Army. He was part of the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment. He served in the Falkland Islands and Northern Ireland. Now, he uses his success to help many people. He supports groups like Operation Smile and the Malibu Foundation. He and his wife also help Christian refugees through a special fund. His journey from a T-shirt seller to a famous producer is quite amazing.
