Learning Marathi involves understanding its unique rules and sounds. The language has three different genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. It also has a special way to say "we." Depending on who is included, the word for "we" changes. The sounds of the language are also very distinct. It uses special ways of making sounds with the tongue and teeth.

Marathi has a history that stretches back many centuries. It grew from an older language called Maharashtri Prakrit. Some of the oldest writings are found on stone and copper plates.

One very old inscription was found at the foot of a statue in Karnataka. In the 1100s, the Shilahara rulers used it for important records. Later, the Yadava kings used Marathi more and more in their writing. This helped the language grow and become very important in the region.

Many famous writers and saints used Marathi to share their ideas.
