This vision was called the Manifesto of Futurism. It was a plan for a new kind of art and life. Marinetti wanted to move away from the old ways of the past. He believed that people should celebrate speed, machines, and industry. To him, a fast car was a great symbol of progress.

He thought this new energy would help modernize Italy. The manifesto was meant to bring a fresh spirit to the country.

How did the Futurists want to change the world? They believed that art should embrace the power of modern life. They thought humans should use speed instead of being controlled by it. This meant that poetry and art would change as the world changed. They even believed that art should be something you feel with your whole body. One idea was called universal dynamism. This meant that objects and people are always moving and blending together. For example, they imagined a bus rushing past houses as a single, moving scene.

This movement began in the autumn of 1908. Marinetti wrote the manifesto during that time. It first appeared in Milan in January 1909. It was the preface to a book of his poems. Soon, it spread to many other places. It was printed in a newspaper in Bologna on February 5, 1909. Later, it appeared in a French newspaper called Le Figaro on February 20. In April 1909, a Spanish version was published in a magazine in Madrid. This helped the ideas reach many different people.

Many different people joined this movement. While some parts of the manifesto were very intense, women were also active. Benedetta Cappa Marinetti worked with glass, metal, and paint. She helped explore a style called aeropainting. Another woman, Valentine de Saint Point, was a dancer and a writer. She even helped lead the movement in some ways. She was inspired by the women's movement and spoke in public. Other women, like Enif Robert, also played parts in this artistic era. Their work helped show the many sides of Futurism.

The ideas in the manifesto were very strong and sometimes difficult. Marinetti wrote that war could be a way to clean the human spirit. He also said people should tear down museums and libraries. These ideas were quite radical for the time. They later influenced big political changes in Italy, such as the rise of Fascism. Some people saw these ideas in the Russian Revolutions of 1917. Even though the manifesto was about art, it changed how people thought about politics and history. It remains a famous part of how art and life connect.
