History shows that mangoes have been around for a very long time. They likely started in a place between Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India. Scientists think they might have been grown in Southeast Asia first. Later, they were moved to other parts of the world. Arab and Persian traders brought them to East Africa long ago. The Portuguese Empire helped spread them to places like Brazil. By the 1800s, mangoes even reached Florida in the United States.

There are many famous types of mangoes to know. One is the Alphonso, which many call the "king of mangoes." Another is the Tommy Atkins, which is very common in stores. This type is great for shipping because it stays good for a long time. In 1974, a man named Ramon Barba found a new way to help trees. He used special tools to make them flower more often. Now, farmers can grow mangoes more easily throughout the year.

People use mangoes in many delicious ways in their cooking. In India, people make a drink called mango lassi. They mix ripe mango pulp with sugar and buttermilk. In the Philippines, people enjoy mango cake or mango float. Some people like to eat green, unripe mangoes too. They might eat them in a salad with salt or vinegar. In Indonesia, people eat them with fish sauce or soy sauce. Every culture has its own special way to enjoy this fruit.
