language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Billions of people around the world celebrate a new year. Many of these celebrations follow the moon. This is called a Lunar New Year. Some people use a lunisolar calendar. This kind of calendar follows the moon and the sun. It uses twelve months. Every few years, it adds a thirteenth month. This is called a leap month. It helps the calendar stay in step with the seasons.

Many cultures have their own special days. In East Asia, people use the Chinese calendar. They often call this the Spring Festival. People in Vietnam and Korea also celebrate around this time. In mid-April, people in Thailand and Cambodia celebrate using the Buddhist calendar.
