He was a master of riding fast on both tracks and roads. People remember him as the very first person to win the Tour de France two times. This huge race is one of the most famous in the world. He showed great skill and grit during his many years of racing. His name became a symbol of strength in the sport of cycling.

His journey into racing began in a very lucky way. At sixteen years old, he won a bicycle in a lottery. He used the name Lucien Breton at first to hide his racing from his father. His father wanted him to have a more traditional job. Later, he changed his name to Petit-Breton to avoid confusion with another rider. He first became known for winning a track championship in Argentina.

Lucien's career grew quickly after he moved back to France in 1902. In 1905, he set a world record on a track in Paris. He rode 41.110 kilometers in just one hour. He also won the very first Milan-San Remo race in 1907. In that same year, he won his first Tour de France. He won the race with 47 points in the 1907 competition.

He proved his greatness again during the 1908 Tour de France.

He rode for the strong Peugeot team that year. His teammates, Francois Faber and Georges Passerieu, finished in third and fourth place. Petit-Breton won the race with 36 points. He also won many individual stages during his long career. These included stages 2, 7, 9, 11, and 14 in the 1908 race. He even won a stage in the Giro d'Italia in 1911.

After his racing days, Lucien started a business making high-quality bicycles. These bikes carried his name and were made in Nantes. The shop continued to make them until the 1960s. His life was cut short during the First World War. He served as a driver in the French army. In 1917, he died in a crash near Troyes involving a horse and cart.
