Lu Jiuyuan was a famous thinker from China. He lived a long time ago. He started a group called the school of the universal mind. This school was very important in Neo-Confucianism.

Lu had many big ideas about the mind. He said the universe is our mind. He also said our mind is the universe. He believed everything is connected. This was different from his rival, Zhu Xi. Zhu Xi thought the mind and the way were separate.

Lu also taught about the original mind. He said all people are born with goodness. He used ideas from a man named Mencius. Lu said we have four roots in our heart. These roots are compassion, shame, respect, and wisdom. We must care for these roots like plants. This helps our goodness grow.

Lu also liked ideas from Daoism. He thought people should live a simple life. He believed we should let go of desires. This helps us stay pure. Many people in Japan studied his work. Later, a man named Wang Yangming helped spread his ideas again. His work stayed important for a long time.
