Many people feel back pain. It can feel like a dull ache or a sharp sting. Most people feel better within six weeks. This is called acute pain. If pain lasts more than 12 weeks, it is called chronic pain.

Pain can happen for many reasons. Sometimes, it comes from muscle or joint strain. A disc can also become damaged. This is called a herniated disc. When this happens, the disc material may press on a nerve. This can cause pain to travel down your legs. This specific feeling is called sciatica.

Doctors use many ways to help. Heat, massage, or acupuncture can help the pain. It is important to keep moving as much as you can.
