He lived a long time ago during the Three Kingdoms period. He wrote a famous book about math rules.

Liu Hui studied many shapes. He found ways to measure the space inside a cone or a pyramid. He also proved a rule about triangles. This rule is like the one we call the Pythagorean theorem.

He was very good at measuring circles. Most people back then thought the number pi was just 3. Liu Hui used a shape with many sides to get a better answer. He used a shape with 3072 sides to find a very close number for pi.

Liu Hui also used math to study the real world. He wrote a book called The Sea Island Mathematical Manual.

He showed how to use tall poles to measure things. He could find the height of a tree or a tower. He could even find the width of a river. He used math to help people build canals and walls, too.
