In the spring, the female lays eggs in a hole. This could be in a tree or a wall. The female sits on the eggs to keep them warm. We call this incubation. While she sits, the male brings her food. When the chicks hatch, both parents hunt for them. The young birds leave the nest after seven weeks. They can fly a week or two later. Most little owls live for about 16 years. However, many do not live that long. Harsh winters or cars can be dangerous for them.
