He lived a long time ago. He was born around the year 1050. He painted scenes of nature. These are called landscapes. Li Tang was very skilled. He worked for the royal court. He reached the top rank in the Painting Academy. This was a special school for artists.

He had a unique way of using his brush. He used a style called "axe-cut" strokes. These marks made rocks and mountains look very sharp and fine.

This style helped shape how later artists painted. Many painters studied his work to learn his ways.

Not many of his paintings still exist today. One famous painting is called "Wind in Pines Among a Myriad Valleys." It is a large hanging scroll. It is the only painting with his clear signature. The signature says he painted it in the spring. Other works are linked to him too. One is called "Gathering Wild Herbs." Another is "Sitting on Rocks Gazing at the Mist." His art remains a vital link in Chinese history.
