Mumford had many big ideas. He believed people need clean air and good water. He thought cities should be comfortable for everyone. He called his way of thinking "organic humanism." This means tools should fit the needs of the human body.

He was worried about some modern ways of making things. He called this "megatechnics." He thought some tools grew too fast. He felt they focused too much on making more things. This can hurt the world around us.

Instead, he hoped for "biotechnics." This is a way to use tools that helps life stay healthy. He wanted a world where people have enough of what they need. He called this "plenitude."

Mumford worked for many years. He wrote for a magazine called The New Yorker. He won the National Book Award. He also won the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
