C. Wright Mills was a famous American sociologist. A sociologist is a person who studies how people live in groups. He was a teacher at Columbia University for many years.

Mills was born in Texas in 1916. He studied many subjects like philosophy and sociology. He worked very hard on his books. He often wrote on yellow paper. He used a sharp pencil to fix his ideas. His wife, Ruth, helped him with his work.

He wrote many important books. One was called "The Power Elite." Another was "The Sociological Imagination." These books helped people think about how society works. His ideas helped new social groups in the 1960s.

Mills traveled to many places. He even visited Cuba. He talked to leaders there to learn about their lives. He was a very bold thinker. He often challenged other professors.

Mills had heart problems for a long time. He worked very fast, perhaps because he knew he was sick. He died in 1962 at age 45. He left behind many big ideas for the world.
