Mumford had a special way of looking at the world. He called his idea "organic humanism." This means that tools and buildings should fit the human body. He believed people need clean air and good water to thrive. He also thought that spaces should be comfortable for everyone. Technology should never run wild like a train without brakes. It must always respect what humans need to stay healthy.

His ideas about technology changed over time. Early on, he was very hopeful about the future. He thought electricity and communication would build a better world. Later, he became more worried about the Second Industrial Revolution. He saw that some new ways of making things were not good. He called this "megatechnics." He felt it focused too much on making things quickly. This can lead to products that do not last long.

Mumford wanted a different way to use tools. He called this "biotechnics." This way of living helps the environment stay healthy. He did not want technology to destroy nature. He wanted a world of "plenitude." This means having enough of what people need to be satisfied. He thought people should use tools to help life, not just to gain power.
