It is also called the Roman script. This name comes from its start in ancient Rome. The letters grew from older Greek letters.

Over a long time, many people changed the letters. They added new ones to fit their own sounds. For example, the letter W was once two V's. The letter J became a separate letter much later.

Today, the Latin script is the most common way to write. Over 2.6 billion people use it. It is used in many places like Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Many people use the 26 basic letters found in English.

These letters also help computers talk to each other. In the 1960s, experts made rules so computers could use the same letters. This helped the whole world share information. Some countries even switch to these letters to change how they write. For example, Kazakhstan plans to use them more by 2025. It is a very big part of how we share ideas today.
