Modern humans lived in Africa first. They lived as hunter-gatherers. This means they moved to find food. They traveled to every continent. They arrived in Australia 65,000 years ago. They reached the Americas 21,000 years ago.

Later, things changed. This was the Neolithic Revolution. People learned to farm plants. They also kept animals. This helped people stay in one place. They built the first permanent settlements.

Soon, big cities grew near rivers.

Early groups lived in places like Mesopotamia and Egypt. These were early civilizations. These groups made many new things. They used the wheel. They made tools from bronze. They also made writing. Writing helped them keep records.

People also made art. Some made cave paintings. Others made music with bone flutes.
