Human history is the story of our kind. It begins with our very first ancestors. Long ago, hominins evolved in Africa. They were unique because they could walk on two legs.

These early people began using stone tools about 3.3 million years ago. This started a time called the Paleolithic era. As the climate changed, humans had to adapt. They learned to use fire for heat and cooking. By 300,000 years ago, modern humans called Homo sapiens appeared. We eventually moved out of Africa to live on every continent.

Life changed forever during the Neolithic Revolution. This happened around 10,000 BCE. Instead of moving to find food, people learned to farm. They grew crops like wheat and barley in Mesopotamia.

In China, people farmed rice and millet. They also learned to keep animals like pigs and sheep. This meant people could stay in one place. They built permanent settlements and the first small villages. This shift helped food supplies grow much larger. It also allowed more people to live together in one area.

As populations grew, the first great civilizations emerged. These societies often started near large rivers. Mesopotamia began around 3300 BCE near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Egypt grew along the Nile around 3200 BCE. In Peru, the Norte Chico civilization started by 3100 BCE. Other big groups rose in the Indus Valley and China. These people built large cities and complex governments. They also created systems to keep records and trade goods. Many of these early cultures lived during the Bronze Age. They used metal tools made from copper and tin.

One of the most amazing inventions was writing. Writing helped people share ideas and run their cities.

It developed separately in many different places. Mesopotamia used a script called cuneiform. Egypt used hieroglyphs to tell their stories. In China, writing was used during the Shang dynasty. Writing allowed humans to preserve their history for others. It also helped people manage large empires and trade networks. As people traveled by sea and land, they shared new inventions. This connected different parts of the world for the first time.

Human history has moved through many big eras since then. We saw the rise of great empires like the Mongol Empire. We also saw new ideas in science and art.
