Ancient history is a special time in our story. It covers about 5,000 years of human life. This era began when people first started writing things down. One of the first ways was Sumerian cuneiform script. This period lasted until the late antiquity era. It includes many different lands and many different people.

Before writing, humans lived in a time called prehistory. During this time, people moved to many new places. They reached Australia about 45,000 years ago. They moved to Europe and Japan later on. Humans even reached the Americas about 15,000 years ago. People also learned how to farm and keep animals. They grew crops like rice and millet. They kept dogs, sheep, and goats for help.

New tools changed how people lived and worked. People first used hammered copper for items. Later, they learned to make bronze around 3500 BC. This happened in Mesopotamia and also in China. Eventually, people learned to work with iron. The Hittites in Anatolia were very good at this. They used iron to make stronger tools and weapons. They also used light chariots with spoked wheels.

Many powerful empires rose in West Asia. Mesopotamia was home to some of the first cities. The Akkadian Empire reached its height around 2330 BC. Later, the Achaemenid Empire became very large. Cyrus the Great founded this great empire. He conquered many lands by 539 BC. His empire built roads to help people travel. This helped them move military forces very quickly.

These changes helped the world population grow. In 10,000 BC, there were only 2 million people. By 3000 BC, that number rose to 45 million. By the end of this period in AD 500, there were 209 million people. This shows how much the world changed. Humans learned to live together in big groups. They built great things that we still study today.
