The group serves places like North America, Europe, and Asia. It also flies to the Caribbean and Oceania. The company has several main bases, which are called hubs.

These hubs are in Santiago, São Paulo, and Lima. Other smaller hubs exist in cities like Bogotá and Quito. This large network helps people travel across huge distances easily.

The airline has grown by joining with other companies over many years. In 2012, the Chilean company LAN took over a Brazilian airline called TAM Linhas Aéreas.

This big move created the LATAM Airlines Group. After the takeover, the two airlines decided to use one new name. In August 2015, they announced they would both become LATAM. By 2018, all the planes had the same look, or livery.

Today, the group works as a parent company for different branches.

The story of this airline began a long time ago in 1929.

It was founded by Arturo Merino Benítez, a leader in the Chilean Air Force. At first, it was called Línea Aeropostal Santiago-Arica. The very first planes were small de Havilland Moths. Later, the name changed to LAN Chile. The airline stayed as the main carrier for Chile until the 1990s. It has a very long history of flying people across the sky.

Over the years, the airline used many different types of planes.

In 1956, a Douglas DC-6B made the first commercial flight over Antarctica.

Later, the airline entered the jet era in 1963 with French planes. In 1966, they bought their first Boeing 707.

This helped them fly long routes to the US and Europe. In 1974, a pilot named Jorge Jarpa Reyes flew from South America to Australia. This was the first non-stop flight over the pole.

Flying with LATAM is like using a giant web of paths.

Just as a road connects two towns, these planes connect distant continents. The airline uses modern planes like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for long trips.

These planes help make the long journey feel smooth. You can see how the airline grew from small planes to huge jets. It has moved from local flights to traveling all around the globe.
