Many rivers flow into the lake. These include the Svir and Volkhov rivers. The water flows out through the Neva River. This river leads to the Gulf of Finland.

Many types of fish live in the water. You can find carp, perch, and salmon. There is also a special animal called the Ladoga seal. This seal lives only in this lake. In the past, the lake was a busy place for trade. During a hard time in World War II, people used the ice to move supplies. This was called the "Road of Life."
