The water stays very cold. Below the surface, it stays near 4 degrees Celsius. This cold water helps keep the air cool in summer. In winter, the lake can freeze. Large waves can grow over 7 meters high during storms. Many islands sit in the water. Isle Royale is the largest island. People visit many pretty parks along the shore.
