The Kunsthaus Zürich is a very large art museum. It is located in Zurich, Switzerland. This museum holds one of the most important art collections in the country. A nonprofit group called the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft helped build this collection over a long time. The art inside covers many different eras. You can see pieces from the Middle Ages all the way to modern art. Much of the art focuses on works made in Switzerland.

Visitors can see many famous artists at the museum. There are works by Claude Monet, including a huge painting of water lilies. You can also find art by Pablo Picasso and Edvard Munch. The museum shows many Swiss artists, like Alberto Giacometti. Other famous names include Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse. Some newer artists like Pipilotti Rist are also there. The art is spread across different floors and buildings.

The museum has grown many times since it first opened. The original building was designed by Karl Moser and Robert Curjel. It opened its doors in 1910. Moser also worked with Oskar Kiefer on the carvings on the outside. The museum was made larger in 1925, 1958, and 1976. A very big new part opened in 2020. This new section was designed by David Chipperfield.

This new extension cost $230 million to build. Half of the money came from the city and canton of Zurich. The other half came from private donors. This new building is made of sandstone. It is a massive rectangular shape. This addition makes the museum much bigger than before. It increased the total size by more than 80 percent. Now, it is the largest museum in Switzerland by area.

Getting to the museum is easy for many people. You can take a Zurich tram to the stop called Zürich, Kunsthaus. This stop is at Heimplatz, right near the museum. In 2021, the museum had 382,603 visitors. It is a place where many people go to learn. Admission to the collection is even free on Wednesdays. There is also a plaque for Lydia Escher at the front. She was a famous supporter of the arts in Zurich.
