King Tubby was a famous music creator from Jamaica.

He is known for changing how people hear music. He helped create a style called dub music. This style uses special sound effects to change songs. Many people call him the inventor of the remix. A remix is when a song is changed into something new. His work influenced many kinds of popular music today.

Tubby used a mixing desk like a musical instrument. He did not just play songs. He moved parts of the music in and out. He used knobs to change the sounds. He used a tool called a high-pass filter. This tool could make a loud horn sound like a thin squeal. He also used echo and reverb. These effects made sounds repeat or swirl around.

Before he was a music star, Tubby was a repairman. He lived in Kingston, Jamaica. He owned an electrical shop on Drumalie Avenue. He fixed radios and televisions for his neighbors. He also built large amplifiers for big sound systems. In 1958, he started his own sound system. It was called Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi. It was very popular because his equipment sounded great.

In the late 1960s, Tubby began working with producers. He worked for a man named Duke Reid. Reid ran Treasure Isle studios in Jamaica. Tubby used a 12-channel MCI mixing desk. This desk was custom-built for his work. In 1971, he opened his own studio in Waterhouse. He worked with famous artists like Augustus Pablo. One very famous song he made was "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" in 1974.

Tubby's ideas changed music all over the world. He taught many new artists how to use sound. Some of his students were King Jammy and Scientist. In the 1980s, he built a much larger studio. He managed his own music labels like Firehouse and Taurus. He worked with many top singers like Sugar Minott. Even though he passed away in 1989, his music is still loved. His way of playing with sound lives on in electronic music.
