He was born in Wittenberg on October 24, 1804. His father was a professor of theology. Weber grew up with two brothers. All three brothers were very good at science. He studied at a school in Halle. Later, he became a professor of natural philosophy. He loved to teach and learn about the world.

Weber believed that students should do more than listen. He wanted them to try things for themselves. He let his students use the college laboratory for free. This helped them understand physics through real experiments. He also worked with his brother, Ernst Heinrich Weber. They wrote a book about waves and fluids. Weber also studied how people walk. He worked on these studies between 1825 and 1838.

In 1831, Weber became a physics professor in Göttingen. He was only twenty-seven years old then. A man named Carl Friedrich Gauss helped him get the job. Weber and Gauss worked together on many big things. In 1833, they built the first electromagnetic telegraph. This machine sent messages using electricity. It connected an observatory to a physics institute. Weber also helped make maps of Earth's magnetism.

Weber did many important things for science. In 1855, he was a member of a science academy in Sweden. He worked with Rudolf Kohlrausch to study light. They showed that light moves at a certain speed. In 1856, they used the letter "c" to stand for this speed. This discovery helped other scientists understand light waves. In 1864, Weber published a way to measure electric currents. This system is still used today.

We still remember Weber in the world of science. One special unit is named after him. It is called the weber. This unit measures magnetic flux. It is a way to talk about magnetic strength. Weber lived a long life of discovery. He died in Göttingen on June 23, 1891. He is buried in the same cemetery as Max Planck.
