King Tubby was a famous music maker from Jamaica.

He was a master of sound. Before he made music, he ran a repair shop. He fixed radios and televisions for people in Kingston. He even built large amplifiers for big music systems.

Tubby changed how people heard music. He used a mixing desk as an instrument. He would turn knobs to change the sound. He could make a loud horn sound very thin. He used effects like echo and reverb. These effects made sounds repeat or swirl. This new way of making music is called dub.

Tubby worked with many top singers and producers. He took old songs and made them sound new. He would add or remove parts of the music. This helped create the idea of a remix. One famous track was "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown." It used a special drum beat called a rockers rhythm. Tubby's work helped change music all over the world. He taught many new artists how to use sound. He was a true star in the world of reggae.
