Keng Vannsak was a great thinker from Cambodia. He was a scholar and a linguist. A linguist is a person who studies languages. In 1952, he made a new keyboard for a typewriter. This helped people type using the Khmer script.

Vannsak was a pioneer in Khmer grammar. This means he helped set the rules for the language. He also wrote many poems and short stories. He even wrote two plays for the stage. He was a teacher at a school in Phnom Penh. He also taught students in London.

He spent many years living in France. While in Paris, he helped Cambodian students. He held meetings at his home to talk about the future of his country. He was a mentor to many people. One of those people was Saloth Sar. Later, Saloth Sar became the leader known as Pol Pot. During that leader's rule, many people in Cambodia died.

Vannsak died in 2008 at the age of eighty-three. He wanted to return to Cambodia one last time. His friends said his final wish was to be buried in his mother's stupa. A stupa is a special monument for Buddhist people. He left a big legacy for scholars today.
