Kangaroos move in a very special way. They use powerful back legs to hop.

They use a long, muscular tail to stay balanced. When they move slowly, they use their tail like a third leg. This is called pentapedal walking. At medium speeds, hopping is very efficient. This means they do not use too much power to move.

Female kangaroos have a pouch called a marsupium.

A baby, called a joey, lives there to grow. Kangaroos also have special teeth for eating grass. Grass can wear teeth down. To fix this, they use polyphyodonty. This is a way where new teeth grow in to replace old ones.
