This name means they are part of a group of animals. Wallaroos live in Australia and Papua New Guinea. They are in between kangaroos and wallabies in size. Their name comes from the Dharug word walaru.

There are many kinds of wallaroos. The common wallaroo is the most well-known. It has four subspecies. These include the eastern wallaroo and the euro. Two others live in small areas. One is on Barrow Island. The other is in the Kimberley region.

The black wallaroo is another kind. It lives on steep and rocky ground. It is the smallest wallaroo. It is also very strong. It lives in a remote area. This makes it hard to study.

Some wallaroos like to live alone. The antilopine wallaroo is different. It is a gregarious animal. This means it likes to live in groups. It lives in woods and grassy plains. People call it a wallaroo, a kangaroo, or a wallaby.
