They like to eat many kinds of plants. Most kangaroos are active when the light is low. They come out in the early morning or evening. They often live in groups. These groups help them stay safe from predators. A mother kangaroo has a special way to care for her young. She can freeze the growth of a new baby. This is called embryonic diapause. She does this when there is not enough food. She can even make two kinds of milk at once. This helps a new baby and an older joey in the pouch. The older joey stays with its mother for 550 days.
