He is best known for his big work called Histoire de France. This series of books tells the story of France. Most writers back then only wrote about kings and leaders. Michelet wanted to show the lives of regular people. He believed that common people helped shape history.

Michelet also gave us a new way to talk about the past. He used the word "Renaissance" to describe a special era. This was a time of new art and big ideas. It marked a change from the Middle Ages.

He married a woman named Athénaïs. She was a writer too. She helped him with much of his work. Michelet also loved nature. He wrote books about birds, insects, and the sea. He even wrote about the mountains.

One of his books about women was very famous. It even inspired the artist Vincent van Gogh.
