The name comes from the Swahili word *kujenga*. This word means "to build."

Leslie Scott created the game. It grew from a family game in the 1970s. Her family used wooden blocks from Ghana. Scott launched the game in 1983. Since then, it has become very popular. People have sold over 80 million games!

To play, you use 54 wooden blocks. You stack them into a tall tower. The tower has 18 layers. Each layer has three blocks. Players take turns removing one block from the tower. You must place that block on the very top. You may only use one hand at a time. You can nudge a block to see if it is loose. But you must put it back if you do not move it.

As you add blocks to the top, the tower gets shaky. The game ends when the tower falls over. The last person to finish a turn wins. In 1985, a man named Robert Grebler built a tower with 40 levels!
