It is a game of code-breaking. One person is the codemaker. The other person is the codebreaker. The codemaker picks a secret pattern. They use four colored pegs. These pegs go into a board. A shield hides the pattern from the other player.

The codebreaker must guess the pattern. They have eight to twelve turns to win. Each guess uses a new row of pegs. The codemaker gives clues using small key pegs. A colored key peg means a color and spot are right. A white key peg means the color is right but the spot is wrong.

This game was made in Israel. Mordecai Meirowitz invented it in 1970. It is based on an old paper game. That game was called Bulls and Cows. Many companies have made the game since then. Some versions use numbers instead of colors. You can even play it on a computer. It is a great way to test your mind!
